The History of the My Child doll
The My Child doll was
released by Mattel from 1985 - 1988. They are 14 inches tall,
weigh just over 1 pound, an come in various combinations of skin
color, hair color, eye color, makeup color and hair style.
There are 5
different hair colors, 5 different eye colors, 4
different skin colors, and 3 different makeup combinations.
The My Child Doll was first
produced from factories in Taiwan, and then, due to the cost of
production and inferior quality, they moved their production to China
factories, where they quality increased, and cost of production
decreased.
1985,
1986: US Market
They were first introduced
to the US market as pale skinned dolls made in Taiwan. They each
had the My Child logo in the shape of a green heart on their bum,
along with one side tag that reads "Hawthorn California 1985 Made in
Taiwan" as well as their own personal tag id number, including 3
numbers and ending in "L". These dolls were plumper than the
later-made dolls, and very often you will find them with wrinkles or
sagging on their face, and faded makeup. They came in 5
different short hair styles.
